Alexander Romanov – From FEA Championship (Eagles FC) to UFC and PFL

30.04.2025

Alexander Romanov is a Moldovan mixed martial artist known for his exceptional wrestling, aggressive fighting style, and the nickname “King Kong.” His career spans major global promotions — from FEA Championship (Eagles FC) to the UFC and now the PFL — each stage playing a crucial role in his professional growth.

Early Years and FEA Championship (Eagles FC)
Romanov began his MMA journey in the Moldovan promotion Eagles FC, part of the FEA Championship project. He quickly established himself as one of the region’s most promising heavyweights. Romanov tore through the local competition with 11 consecutive finishes, becoming the heavyweight champion.

Thanks to these successes and the support of FEA Championship (Eagles FC), he drew the attention of international promoters and was invited to join the UFC, where at the time of signing, he ranked high in unofficial heavyweight rankings outside the league.

The UFC Stage
In 2020, Alexander signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and debuted with a flawless 11–0 record. He kicked off with an impressive five-fight win streak, most of them by finish. His dominant wrestling, ground control, and physical presence quickly earned him a spot in the division’s top 15.

However, at the higher levels of competition, he faced difficulties. Losses to Marcin Tybura, Alexander Volkov, and Jailton Almeida followed, though he maintained a reputation as a tough and dangerous heavyweight.

In total, Romanov had 10 fights in the UFC, winning 7 of them. His last UFC bout took place in November 2024, where he convincingly defeated Brazilian Rodrigo Nascimento via unanimous decision. Despite the win, he was soon removed from the UFC’s active roster.

A New Challenge – PFL
In early 2025, it was announced that Alexander Romanov had signed with the American promotion PFL (Professional Fighters League). He will compete in the annual heavyweight Grand Prix, where fighters battle for a championship title and a $500,000 prize.

With his UFC experience and a strong track record in other promotions, Romanov is considered one of the top contenders in the tournament and a legitimate title threat.

Outlook
Joining the PFL opens new horizons for Alexander. He remains one of the most recognizable and seasoned heavyweight fighters from Eastern Europe. His background in Greco-Roman wrestling, raw physical strength, and in-cage experience make him a dangerous matchup for anyone in the division. Tomorrow, on May 1st, he will face Tim Johnson.

Alexander Romanov continues his MMA journey, striving for new heights, victories, and titles on the international stage.
