COBRA Rhodes: “The people of Moldova want to increase their game in the sport of arms, so they have asked me to help them doing…”

A multiple World and National Champion, a true legend of the sport of armwrestling, Andrew COBRA Rhodes talks to Armwrestlers ONLY about his new project, The Moldova Open Cup 2: Men\’s Edition. 

How it happened that in a small country in Europe, Moldova is organized such an event with money prize found of 70.000 euros, and the legendary COBRA Rhodes is a co-organizer of it?

– The people of Moldova want to increase their game in the sport of arms, so they have asked me to help them doing, so which I have gladly Accept.

Are you going to compete at the event, or you are going to focus only on the organization?

– I will not be competing at this event. It is strictly organiaztion and production on my end.

An event with 70.000 euros prize money.., so how much will be a starting fee for the athletes? I am asking, because from years in armwrestling an event organizers apply the same formula (with a few exceptions), that starting fee must cover the costs of organization of the event.

– We are very excited to be offering €70.000 to the competitors as a prize fund and really exciting is te fact that there is no registration fee for any of the competitors, it is open to all.

The day before, there is a seminar organized, which you will lead along with two other armwrestling stars. Can you tell us more about it, who they are, and what you are going to focus on?

– Yes, we will also be having a Legend Seminar with myself, John Brzenk and Travis Bagent on Thursday. Each of us will be giving some information as to are concept of the sport and we will be accepting questions.

From a several weeks John is involved in the project, The POUND FOR POUND, where together with Ryan Bowen, they do the predictions and analizes in the armwrestling. Does it mean that in Chisinau we will also see his project partner, Ryan? … I\’m asking because they are doing it great, and it could be a huge support for the event having them.

– Yes, John and Ryan will also be doing their Podcast for Pound for Pound from the event.

Is Moldova Open Cup 2: Men\’s Edition a one-time project, or COBRA Production has more plans for the future?

– I understand for some athlete this might almost unbelievable to have such an event heppening on such short notice, but Moldova is ready to up their game in the sport of arms and everything is time sensitivew when it comes to success. This is the first time that we will be having a competition in this country, we will be have another one coming soon.

Also, on the 14th of September, before the finals begin there will be a right handed supermatch between John Brzenk and Travis Bagent.
