Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the pay-per-view (PPV) market this Saturday night (Nov. 12, 2016) for what could be the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card of all time. UFC 205: “Alvarez vs. McGregor” will feature three championship title fights, including the lightweight championship main event, where Eddie Alvarez will have five rounds to defend his 155-pound strap from current featherweight kingpin Conor McGregor.

In the UFC 205 co-main event, also scheduled for five rounds, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will make his first-ever title defense against skilled striker and 170-pound No. 1 contender Stephen Thompson. In addition, UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk gives 25 minutes to 115-pound adversary Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who like the aforementioned champion, has been perfect throughout her combat sports career.

Again he drops Alvarez to a knee with a counter left, but again he rises immediately. Another left hand drops him. Two minutes in. Alvarez looking for a leg as McGregor takes north-south. Solid lefts from McGregor as Alvarez looks to defend. Hard shot through Alvarez\’s legs, but he manages to scramble up. Two minutes to go.

Body kick by the Irishman, who stuffs a takedown. Counter right lands for the champion. Lead right this time, left hand comes back at him. One minute to go. Alvarez lands a body kick and a right hand inside. Alvarez with some body shots. Head kick attempt. Both land body kicks. 10-8 McGregor.

Round 2: Body kick exchange to start. Straight left by McGregor. Another counter left stings Alvarez, who stays standing. He shoots, stuffed. Round 1: Thompson switching stances, slowly advancing into range. Hook kick comes up short. One minute in. Head kick blocked. Two minutes in. Low kick lands and Woodley catches it, taking him down into half guard. Thompson with the underhook, trying to get to his side. two minutes to go.

Woodley briefly threatens an arm-triangle, then lands short left hands. He\’s trying to isolate Thompson\’s right arm, cannot do so. One minute to go. Thompson gets full guard and holds Woodley close. Woodley thumps him in the body and lands elbows before the bell. Thompson\’s a bloody mess. 10-9 Woodley.

Round 2: Woodley giving ground as before, lands a body kick. Woodley ties up on the fence a minute in. He continues to drive, Thompson defending. Two minutes in. Thompson separates. Thompson looks for punches, backs away from a rush. Two minutes to go.

Spinning back kick from Thompson. Straight left hand draws a shake of the head. Sneaky counter right and Woodley nods this time. Right hand slips through the guard. Thompson comes back with a right of his own. One minute in. Woodley pops him with a jab. Thompson slips a left through the guard. Woodley tries a head kick. Two minutes in. Round 5: They slap hands together to start the round. Thompson with a head kick, walking forward. Jumping switch kick bounces off the guard. Jedrzejczyk manages to fight it off and they separate. Knee inside from the challenger. One minute to go. Kowalkiewicz catches a head kick and again looks for a takedown. Round 3: Kowalkiewicz again charges into the clinch and they trade both position and strikes. They separate and Jedrzejczyk lands a leg kick. One minute in. Kicks from both women. Two minutes in. Good exchange and a front kick from Jedrzejczyk. Kowalkiewicz lands a straight right. Punching combo and low kick from the champion. Kowalkiewicz looks for a head kick, eats a body kick. Both try spinning back fists and Jedrzejczyk lands a front kick, then another head kick behind it. Low kick. Jedrzejczyk to the body, front kick and knees after Kowalkiewicz lands punches. Round 5: Jedrzejczyk opens with more kicks to the legs and body. Kowalkiewicz throwing hard, eats an elbow. They separate from the clinch. Another low kick and straight right from Jedrzejczyk. Body kick lands for him. Weidman completes a single-leg and a scramble ensues. Romero slips free and they resume on the feet. Two minutes in. Lead right by the former champion. Body kicks from Weidman and an axe kick. Romero reverses a takedown and lands a hook on the way up. Two minutes to go.

Superman punch lands for Romero, who eats a counter. Short uppercuts from Romero when Weidman changes levels. One minute to go. Body kick by Romero. Weidman shoots after taking a low kick and grabs the seatbelt. Romero gets back to his feet, Weidman on his waist, and cranks a kimura before the bell. 10-9 Weidman.

Round 2: Romero covers himself in water in the corner and earns himself a quick wiping-down.

Weidman staying active, lands another body kick. Romero sprawls on a takedown and lands a straight left. Romero to the body. One minute in. 1-2 by the Cuban. Low kick lands for him and he stuffs another takedown. Low kick from Weidman. Overhand left connects. Body kick from Weidman. Straight right lands. Round 1: Low kicks from Tate to start the fight. Jab-hook from Pennington. One minute in. Jabs landing for Pennington. Nice combination. Tate ties up and both women land some dirty boxing. Tate hauls her to the cage, looking for a single-leg. Two minutes in. Pennington slowly sets up a guillotine and yanks Tate into the air. Tate using the cage to relieve the pressure and continues to drive. Pennington sprawling well thus far. Two minutes to go.

Tate finally gets the takedown and sets up in guard. Pennington trying to stand with the cage, does so but with Tate attached to her. One hook in for the former champion. Pennington lands some elbows to the thigh as she controls Tate\’s wrists. Tate establishes the body triangle at the bell. 10-9 Tate.

Round 2: Pennington continues to work well behind her jab. Knee from Tate. Great jabs from Pennington and some heavy shots when Tate ties up. One minute in. Tate wades into the clinch. Tate pressing her against the cage, lands some knees to the body. two minutes in. Elbow from Tate, who eats a solid uppercut. Pennington slips to the rear waistlock and Tate grabs the fence. Dirty boxing from Pennington. Two minutes to go.

Pennington staying heavy against the cage. Knees from Tate, body punches by Pennington. Tate reverses position. One minute to go. Pennington reverses in turn and continues to dig away with short punches. Nice punching exchange at the bell. 10-9 Pennington.

Round 3: Tate swings her way into the clinch and pulls guard. {ennington presses her against the fence, then sinks down to the mat, where Tate looks for an armbar. Pennington lands elbows and solid punches as Tate tries the triangle-armbar series. One minute in. Tate continues to transition as Pennington lands ground-and-pound. Tate turns, looking for a leg, and Pennington takes north-south. Two minutes in. Tate trying to use the cage, eats an elbow and manages to shoot in. Pennington sprawls on it and looks for a ten-finger guillotine. Tate goes to her back and looks for a heel hook. Pennington patiently slips out, standing over her. Two minutes to go.

Leg kicks by Pennington and she sprawls again. Tate going hard for the takedown as Pennington threatens a front choke. Pennington pressing her against the cage, landing punches. One minute to go. Takedown from Pennington, landing punches as Tate uses a knee shield. Tate turns for a Kimura, denied. Pennington stands and pounds away until the bell. 10-9 Pennington.

Round 1: Both men jabbing early. Edgar shoots, stuffed, lands a combination. Low kick from Stephens. Edgar shoots again and takes him to the fence. One minute in. Stephens circles free. Low kick from Edgar. Stephens just misses with a knee. Good 1-2 from Edgar. Two minutes in. Stephens tries a high kick, eats a leg kick. Edgar shoots and transitions to the front headlock, firing knees. He transitions to a single-leg, Stephens defends well.Edgar eventually gets him down for a second. Two minutes to go.

He gets in on Stephens\’ hips again and takes him down again. Stephens returns to his feet and they eventually separate. Edgar caught a finger in the eye, looks like. They resume without fuss. Lead right from Stephens. 2-3 connects for Edgar and he blocks a head kick. Stephens digs a right low and left high before the bell. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 2: Stephens stuffs an early takedown and eats a punch to the nards. Overhand right by Edgar when they resume. Stephens tries a switch kick, eats a body kick. Edgar really moving well, avoiding Stephens\’ bombs. Low kick lands. One minute in. 3-2 and a takedown from Edgar. He transitions to the rear waistlock when Stephens scrambles and slams him down. Stephens returns to his feet. Stephens tries a combination. 2-3 by Edgar. Low kick and takedown attempt, but Stephens blasts him with a head kick and an illegal knee when he shoots in. Edgar\’s hurt. Hard right hand by Edgar as Stephens stalks him. Two minutes to go.

Stephens patient, sticking out his jab. Body shot. Check hook from Edgar, Overhand right lands for Stephens, then another. Three-piece from Edgar in return. Lovely takedown by Edgar into half guard. Stephens scrambles up and finds himself in a guillotine, He escapes, still on the bottom. One minute to go. Edgar looking to set up the guillotine from side control. He locks it up and steps to mount, where he loses it but continues landing damage. Close round. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 3: Low kick from Stephens. Right hand lands for Stephens. Another good low kick lands, but Edgar takes him down with it. Half guard now. One minute in. He passes to side control, only for Stephens to crank a kimura. Edgar hops back to half guard, slips out, and lands elbows. Full mount for the former champion. Now the back. Two minutes in. One hook in for Edgar against the cage. Stephens stands, gets hauled back down immediately. Stephens works his way back up and separates. Hard straight right by Stephens. Two minutes to go.

Frankie shoots, stuffed. Spinning back kick attempt. Again, then Edgar lands a right hand. Left hook. Stephens marching after him. One minute to go. Three-punch combination lands. Stephens digs a right downstairs. Uppercut whiffs. Edgar lands a lead right. 3-2 by Edgar, then a straight right. Stephens lands a corking right hand and eats a 1-2 before the bell. 10-9 Edgar.

155 lbs.: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson

Round 1: Low kicks from Johnson early on. Fairly tentative start. Left hand from Johnson, low kick, 1-2. One minute in. Overand left lands clean for Johnson, who\’s landing extremely well so far. Body shots. MONSTER right hook and overhand left hurt Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov shoots, Johnson defends on the cage. Two minutes in. Nurmagomedov completes it into side control. He moves into the crucifix and lands punches, then goes back to side control. Good elbow. Two minutes to go.

Hard ground-and-pound from “The Eagle.” Johnson regains guard as the beating continues, gives up half guard. Nurmagomedov just battering him, moves to mount on the fence. One minute to go. Khabib takes his back and pounds away with vicious left hands. Khabib continues thumping him until the bell. 10-9 Nurmagomedov, who struggled too much in the early going for a 10-8.

Round 2: Johnson\’s still slinging heat. Straight left lands for him. Again. Uppercut from Nurmagomedov. Johnson steps into the clinch and manages to escape the takedown attempt. He stops another takedown, then another and he pulls guard on a guillotine. Nurmagomedov quickly slips out and passes directly to the crucifix. Two minutes in. The ground-and-pound continues, Nurmagomedov nicely switching between positions to maximize damage. Now the back and more sledgehammer punches follow. Two minutes to go.

Johnson honestly looks like a beaten man in there. Nurmagomedov just utterly dominating him, taking his post out from under him and constantly landing heavy punches. This needs to be stopped. Khabib postures up and continues pummeling him until the bell. 10-8 Nurmagomedov.

Round 3: Uppercut from Nurmagomedov and they sling heat. Easy takedown into mount. Hard elbow. Bloody hell, those punches are making some unpleasant sounds on Johnson\’s face. Full mount, one arm trapped. He threatens an arm-triangle. Johnson tries to use the cage to stand, only succeeds in getting back to side control. Nurmagomedov locks up a Kimura and draws the tap, ending the beatdown.

Final result: Nurmagomedov def. Johnson by submission (kimura)

185 lbs.: Tim Boetsch vs. Rafael Natal

Round 1: Natal counter right, Boetsch right hand afterwards. Natal looks for a high kick. One minute in. Boetsch lands a front kick to the body, shrugs off a takedown, and lands a thudding right hook. Natal low kick, eats a right hand. Boetsch checks a kick and stuffs a takedown. Two minutes in. Boetsch continues to pressure. Low kick lands for him, then a right straight. Natal tries a spinning back fist. Good exchange, both men connect. Two minutes to go.

Body kick from Natal, who gets clobbered with a right hand when his back hits the fence. Natal falls and Boetsch pounds away until the ref steps in.

Alves spins to his feet and separates. Straight left by Miller, who\’s slipped most of Alves\’ straight rights. One minute to go. Body kick lands for Miller. Straight left form Miller and then an exchange near the fence. Miller ties up and eats a  pair of knees. Alves marching forward at the bell. 10-9 Miller.

Round 2: Both men light on their feet early on. Right hand from Miller. Alves lands a body kick, eats another straight left. He tries a jumping knee. One minute in. Uppercut by Miller, met by a jab. 3-2 from Alves and a body kick. Miller shoots, sprawled on.  Alves eats a body kick in return. He jumps in with a knee and Miller immediately takes him down.
