Klitschko vs. Povetkin results: Wladimir Klitschko clinches his way to unanimous decision over Alexander Povetkin

 

On Saturday, October 5 in Moscow, Wladimir Klitschko stepped into the ring to once again claim his spot atop the heavyweight division. Klitschko came into the bout on an 18 fight win streak. His challenger Alexander Povetkin entered the ring undefeated in 26 fights with four successful defenses of the WBA regular Heavyweight championship.
 
From the opening bell, Klitschko made his intentions clear. He had no desire to exchange with Povetkin and took every opportunity available to clinch up. He landed jabs and short lead hooks at distance, but any time Povetkin got inside, Wladimir grabbed hold and leaned all his weight on the smaller man.
 
The clinch heavy action kept the fight moving at a snail\’s pace despite a second round knockdown by Klitschko. It picked up in the seventh round when Wladimir scored e knockdowns. However, all three were caused more by Klitschko tripping Povetkin in the clinch than by the punches landed. The referee didn\’t penalize the Ukranian until the 11th round when he pushed Alexander down once again. That didn\’t stop Klitschko from doing it one more time in the final round.
 
After the bout, all three judges scored the fight 119-104 to award Wladimir Klitschko the unanimous decision over Alexander Povetkin.
