Klitschko vs Povetkin: Freddie Roach reportedly to train Alexander Povetkin
16.07.2013
According to a Russian boxing official, Freddie Roach will be the trainer for Alexander Povetkin, who faces Wladimir Klitschko on October 5.
Freddie Roach will be the trainer for Alexander Povetkin as the Russian heavyweight standout prepares to meet Wladimir Klitschko on October 5 in Moscow, according to a report at BoxingScene.com citing Andrei Ryabinsky, the vice president of the Russian Federation of Professional Boxing.
Povetkin (26-0, 18 KO) has bounced from trainer to trainer in his pro career, settling, it seemed, on Teddy Atlas a few years ago, before that all fell apart and Kostya Tszyu was hired. Now, it\’s apparently going to be Roach, although without Team Povetkin confirming this, there\’s a chance it\’s just talk.
Klitschko (60-3, 51 KO) will be trained again by Johnathon Banks, the heavyweight fighter who has taken over his training since the passing of Emanuel Steward last year.
If the report is true, will Roach be able to make any impact for Team Povetkin, or is there really nothing more that Povetkin can do outside of getting lucky against what still appears to be the dominant force in the division?
